www.cigna.com | Wellness Tips from CIGNA's Health Advocate Series | Supermarket Survival - Be "cart smart" and shop your way to healthier food choices! CIGNA Health Advocate Erika says that where you spend time in the supermarket can have a huge impact on your health. Erika advises shoppers to spend as much time as possible in the outer aisles of store because that's where you'll find fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and other healthy items. She also says to limit your time in the center aisles of the store because that's where you'll find unhealthy processed and packaged items. Packaged foods with cartoon characters on the label or labels that say "cooks in five minutes" likely don't have a lot of nutritional value. Erika advises buying foods in a rainbow of colors. Eating foods of many different colors every day is a great way to get the nutrients your body needs. And pay attention to fat -- look for foods with unsaturated fat and limit ones high in saturated fat. Being "cart smart" can help you stay healthy. "Supermarket Survival" is the first in a six-part series of short videos featuring some simple but practical tips for healthier living from CIGNA health advocates. CIGNA employs a large team of health advocates who can answer questions and help people with a wide variety of health and wellness issues, such as stress management, weight loss, physical activity, sleep and nutrition.
